Teacher Resources
Dear AD IT UP instructors,
Thank you for the commitment you've made to teach high school students vital information about media literacy and tobacco use. By implementing AD IT UP in your classroom, you are making a difference in the lives of students in your community. The media literacy skills they learn will help them make better health decisions now and in the future.

The AD IT UP Web based program is not only an effective program in teaching media literacy and educating youth about the hazards associated with smoking, but it is fun and easy to carry out. Our research indicates that high school students respond well to the program and enjoy participating in it. The program is designed so that it can be easily accessed via the internet. Students work independently at their own pace and completion of the course will take approximately 3, one-hour class periods. Progress through the program is saved so that students can pick up where they left off from one class period to the next.

As an AD IT UP facilitator you do not have to be a tobacco or media literacy "expert". The program is designed to be easily administered by instructors from various backgrounds. All you will need to implement it is internet access, computers and headphones.

A link to our brief "Quick Start Guide" is provided under the "Teacher's Resources" box in the column on the left. This link will provide you with a quick overview of media literacy and the AD IT UP program. For a more detailed description of the program, please go to "A Closer Look", which will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the rationale and core concepts behind AD IT UP. We've also included some "Related Links" and "Related Research Articles" that will provide you with some additional resources for tobacco smoking and media literacy information. You are also invited to watch our award winning AD IT UP video, which shows how three teams of students in Pittsburgh area schools used the media literacy skills they learned from the AD IT UP program to produce their own anti-tobacco commercials.

Thank you again for your dedication to helping to improve the lives of adolescents in your community. The AD IT UP Web based program cannot be done without your support. We are grateful for the contribution of time and energy you are making.
